Modern
Moderns drop all relationship to hand drawn letters and take a geometric approach. Bodoni is the first Modern, designed in the 18th centruy by Giambattista Bodoni. You can identify a Modern by its upright axis (see above) and thick vertical strokes contrased with thin connecting strokes. Modern fonts are very stylish in a cool, aloof way. They make captivating headlines, but tax the eyes at small sizes or for extended reading.
